Somebody hire me

I will move to Alaska. I will brave the big city. I will commute by train, plane, or automobile. I will live in the sticks, or live in the tropics. I will take a sled dog, snowmobile, or canoe to work. I will work my ass off, be innovative, develop programs, slogans, and ideas that WORK. I will EVEN enter data and run statistical analysis if it wold help you or your firm. JUST HIRE me and give me the chance to work with my Master's Degree making more than a miserable hourly wage. FOR ONE TIME IN MY LIFE I WOULD LIKE TO GET A CAREER WHERE MY SALARY DOES NOT LEAVE ME ELIGIBLE TO GET FOOD STAMPS!

Sometimes I wonder if the academic game is just that...a game. Crunch those numbers. Make peanut butter. I am fairly depressed today, but need to get up on my feet and convince someone that hiring me is the best move they will make in a long time! I need a job that uses my skills.

Anyone send my a lead (one that I am actually qualified for), and I will dazzle them in an interview. All I need is a chance with a REAL job, helping or teaching people for a realistic wage, planning programs, writing grants, preparing budgets, teaching, analysis, PR, human relations...and I will be the forever grateful, talented, and loyal employee...

My wife and I are willing to move almost anywhere to make this happen...

partay with Patay

So, Coley's bestest girlfriend from Portland is visiting for the weekend. It has been fun. Mostly just keeping a fire in the fireplace, watching all of the back episodes of Queer as Folk, and listening to them talk about the old days in the nursing Biz in Portland...

"OMG, remember when Hallmark showed up to work in the camo scrubs? We couldn't find him!"

"OMG, remember how Judy used to come to work drunk and we had to prop her up in the hallway and put a wet paint sign on her? Remember?"

Anyway, our weekend has definately been calm, which is good. I fluctuate between relief, and wondering when it was that I decided a night of thumping dance tracks, beer, and flashing lights sounded like the perfect recipe for a headache. There is a giant rocking chair outside of a furniture store in vandals town...we were all thinking we should sit in it and take pics. Somebody calm us down before we get into real trouble...

It is 8:36. I need to drink some warm milk and hit the sack.

Rain.

Little C's bestest buddy. Woey.

"Running Grad Student" was my official department photo at WSU. No wonder my students didn't seem to find me much of an imposing presence.

Jason Hill took two classes from me, one of them being upper division "Sociology of Sport"...I had no idea who he was. Only after the fact do I see him on all televised Coug games doing inzone dances. Yep, real informed about the whole college football thing, eh? Glad they assigned me THAT class to teach...

Gramma and Little C. Cuteness abounds...Little C is cute too.

You gotta have rain in order to have a rainbow.

Oh, puke.

mewwy...

Those last were pics of my friend's wedding several summers ago. Little C called her "Mewwy"...

Hi Mewwy! I have more pics from that wonderful day, and I will sprinkle my blog with them. Yes. I said "sprinkle." "Sprinkle my blog" is not actually anything I would ever expect to say in a sentence. Y'know?

Keewee and Damnit Janet at my own wedding reception...

For me friends...

I am going to find and post pics of my friends. My faithful friends who find the time to visit my blog...just to make you all smile (I hope)

MC Grand Mix Master Rowdy Fouty...(geez, can I call you MC?)...your pics are on my cell phone, as most of our times together I have probably been too drunk to operate a digital camera...but I will figure it out. Then you will be sorry.

Dr. Shelf? How can it be that I never captured you in all of your paisley, floral, psychadelic, jean patched glory? I may come to Alaska again soon, and then I will be chasing you around the UAA campus...

Nurse Angie? I have pics. I'm digging them out. You and Zig and a Trolley. Remember?

Kee-wee? I have pics of you, me, and Oogy. Me you and Oogy. Oogy, you and I. Oogy and us. I ain't got no good English. I might just scan our high school drawings of frog eyes and PhilMan, and post those. They still make me laugh so hard I almost pee.

Damnit Janet. Your posts crack me up. I have some great pics of you, and yours, hee hee. Even back from the Odie Jayne days. I'm so glad you read this. Makes me feel cared about. I need a tissue. Not because I am feeling sentimental, but because I have a giant booger.

Jacqueline Squaw Broad? Cheryl Louise? Oogy? Binks? Annie on the Range? Aye-Maria? Oh Nikki "Your So Fine"? More-een? HarNar? I have pics of all of you. Oh yes. I will find them.

Momgator? I can't believe you read this thing filled with words like "gosh" and "golly"...and all of the lesbionic references...I am going to find pics of dad with the Elvis sideburns, and you both in matching polyester pant suits. You know, the 70's get-ups. Me in bell-bottoms. My friends will see those, and then have no more questions for me about how it is I turned out this way.

"I do...still..."

I realized that my friends have been wanting to see the wedding pics, and I never really posted any. It is kinda tough when Coley tells me if I post any of her she doesn't like, she will put ice cubes down my shorts. But, I don't wear boxers on Wednesdays, and she is in Boise, so I am posting.

Heh, heh, heh.

Ann I rant, I rant so far away...

My oh my...
How about that Ann Coulter?
It is quite challenging working with the generation that comprises the population I professionally serve...

The sweetest 92 year old lady was having a conversation with me, and managed to include several times about how the gays are "taking over the schools", and Islamic people have a plan to build mosques next to colleges, and then marry all of the college girls to "take over"...

...and it is all part of the LAST DAYS, where children turn on their parents, we all get bar coded on our foreheads or on the appropriately beastly hand...and dogs and cats sleep together...(but she is SO SWEET and fun to talk to, minus that stuff...)

And then the next old lady wanted to tell me all about the terrific book by Ann Coulter she is reading called the "Church of Liberalism", or some such thing...and how it laments our going soft on crime, soft on welfare moms...just generally lacking the big, hard, stiff one in our country, I guess...

Again, a VERY sweet woman. I decided NOT to talk politics and give her a heart attack.

So I take my frustrations home, and then blog 'em out, baby.

I must post a few responses on Ann Coulter from a website I so enjoy....

it's not so much that we hate ann coulter for speaking her mind, because that's hard to do. it's more that we hate her for her dishonesty. which is to say this: free speech is an important right that we should all cherish, and it makes me sad that someone like ann coulter would engage in such a dishonest use of it.

of course, she has the right to say whatever the hell she wants. but as a professional "journalist" or "commentator" or whatever she is, it seems like she should hold herself to a higher standard of truth than, um, lying. in her column she seems to state that private funding for stem cell research is not pouring in "hand over fist," when in fact it is, as we show.

the problem with ann is that she lies. lies. lies. lies. that's all there is to it. we've documented several egregious lies on this site, but the point is really this. we don't mind that she disagrees with us. in fact, we welcome debate. but it's hard to have a serious, substantive debate with someone who doesn't have their facts straight.

and another entry...

To be honest, though, Ann Coulter deserves to be lauded in that she has made a substantial mark in a world dominated by testicular viewpoints. Unfortunately, her inabilty to make a point without backing it up with a Jackie Mason style punchline makes a mockery of her accomplishments. She has made herself out to be a one-trick pony, on the verge of becoming a jackass. Making a stand as an intelligent woman is to be highly regarded, stealing the routine of Andrew Dice Clay belittles you makes other Neo-conservative females just as unsufferable.

Amen, and goodnight...

A Few More Shots

I am alone, all by myself, which used to not bug me at all. In fact, I used to like it.

Now I just miss my spousal person. As a result, I will probably squeeze the kitties too hard and make them squeak.

So sad.

"I'm the deciderererer..." NOT!

I guess the results finally speak for themselves.

C Man, Little C, Coley and me...

Since I finally have my pics downloaded, I must publish them before I go back to the big grind...more to come later!

coughcoughcoughcough

I am not feeling well. I missed work today. Our office has been like a giant Petrie dish. Just about everyone has been really sick, for an extended period of time. I thought I was escaping, but it seems it has caught me, or me it. Coley has to fly to Boise tonight for an Ombudsman training-so I am alone with the kitties. They are looking at me. Just staring, really.

I don't know what they want. Maybe they want me to renew my driver's license.

I am going to go take some medicine, and drink some hot tea, and stare back at the cats.

At least the Democrats seem to be taking the House. Raise the roof. Cough. cough.

COUGS PLUCK DUCKS! Film at 11

Here are a few pics from our fun time out at the Coug game...which we won. Cougars and ducks? Does not seem like a fair match. NOT something you are likely to see on Animal Planet...

Halloween pics

Hey! Kinda cute, huh? Everyone in costume before the chaos set in....

Like Herding Bats

BOO! Did I scare ya?

Poor kid...Little C wanted to do her first "big kid trick-or-treat" outing, so I had bought her a Renaissance costume that she picked out, and arranged to leave work about 20 minutes early so I coulfd make the commute in time to pick her up, get her dressed, meet the friends, and have time to do the door to door, still get her back to change and to Spam's before 8:30 and the inevitable fit that would follow if I was a single minute late...

It has been bone numbingly cold here lately, and of course, Little C's costume required some modifications (like dark pants and turtleneck underneath)...

Ran to store to get last minute prep stuff, picked her up, and immediately ran into a wall of cars. I flipped an illegal u-turn to take another route, and got pulled over..couldn't find my wallet that had fallen on the floor since my interior truck light didn't work. Didn't have Little C in a booster since daycare had confirmed she was tall and heavy enough, but also couldn't tell the cop her current weight (it has been a while), had him talking in one ear and Little C in the other...fortunately he took pity on me and let me go without my even producing my license...which is currently expired since I haven't had time to fix it during the weekdays...so I was lucky...

...went through the whirlwind of dressing C, fighting with her shoe knots, trying to find the warmest clothes, raced over to Nikki's (a battle worn mom who doesn't flinch anymore in the face of chaos cause she has been there/done that)..we were supposed to go to Vandals town for the mall experience, but by the time we went through the whining kids, hair spraying the last details into place, losing props (hats and tails), Nikki simulataneously on the cell phone, smoking a cigarette, fixing her hair, drinking her beverage, and talking to her crying daughter (AT THE SAME TIME) made me tired before we even left...

By the time we hit the neighborhood C was already tired. The kids were testy (but cute in costume), and fluctuated between excited and devastated by the careless slights bestowed upon each other in the course of candy hunting ("she ran ahead of me and didn't stop when I asked", "she is sitting in my spot", "they got more candy than me", "I lost my hat", "I'm cold", "I lost YOUR gloves", "my bag ripped", "I lost my tail"...)...home in tears we went...

Little C was falling over sleepy sideways in the truck, and I didn't have time to get her home to change her back into her clothes...47 lbs of candy still sits in my cupboard...and a check of my phone the next morning revealed that Spam did indeed call at EXACTLY 8:30pm. My oh my. I had her home probably while she was still on the phone waiting to complain...although I guess Bible study until 9:30 at Kingdom Hall is okay, since that is HER thing...

ok, ok...I digress...

and somehow, despite all of that trauma, I KNOW Little C will want to go again next year...

I will come back to this and post a pic as soon as I download them...
